Chocolate Pops

So my friend's daughter's birthday is this Saturday and my friend, Jodi asked me to make the cake.  It is going to be a ladybug cake.  :)  Very excited about this one!  Pictures will come later in the week.  However, as part of the cake/gifts for the guests, I am making chocolate pops to go on the cake and then home with the guests.  Today was my first attempt at doing this.  I ran down to our local cake/party store (Piece of Cake in Somersworth~LOVE THIS STORE!!!)  and picked up the chocolate, sticks, brushes and a few tips!  I had already picked up the molds a while ago.  One tip was to melt the chips in a muffin tin placed in a pan of boiling water... This worked amazing!! And they stayed melted for well over an hour!
The next thing to do was to pick up the brushes and start painting!  I started with the flowers since they seemed the easiest!  :)  And they were.  Next time though I just need to paint on the chocolate a little thicker.
After painting the flowers and the bugs, some places I used a toothpick (mainly on the butterfly!) to get some smaller detail, you let them sit for a few minutes until the color hardens.  At this point I melted the sold chocolate chips for the backing and then poured it in the molds (but not before putting the sticks in!).
It was so hard to wait for these to harden.  But I did, well almost.  I got a little impatient and pulled one of the flowers out, it didn't make it completely, so of course I had to taste test it!  (They are yummy!)
Well, finished product, I guess turned out OK for my first time.  Tomorrow I am going to pick up some white chocolate chips as I want to make daisy's and I think that some would look better with white backgrounds, compared to milk.  But I guess it is all about what you prefer to eat in the end!
I am hoping the next ones turn out better and that the party is a success! :)  They are a little addicting (I have already only done one try and I am thinking of baby showers, baseball, church, and so many other activities I can make these for!)
